Birth Records

Record of Birth is registered in the County Clerk’s office for births that occur in Effingham County. Birth records are not public record and therefore are available only to specified individuals. 
 
Request must be made in person or in writing. Valid photo identification is required with each request. 
If requesting in writing please include payment in the form of Check or Money Order.
 
Fee for certified copies: $15.00 for the first copy - $5.00 for each additional copy of the same record
 
Those who may receive certified copies:
  • The person to whom the record relates (if person is 18 years of age or older)
  • The parents of the person named on the record. Parent’s name must be listed on the certificate.
  • Legal guardian (with reasonable proof)
  • Legal representative to whom the record relates (with reasonable proof)
  • Person having genealogical interest (birth must have been on file at least 75 years)
  • A department of state or Municipal Corporation or the federal government.
  • Upon the order of a court of competent jurisdiction.
  • Veteran’s Administration or an accredited veteran’s organization (without charge).
